As Seen In: Scoop Charlotte

In the latest issue of Scoop Charlotte, we step inside Allison Welch’s Blue Ridge Mountain home, an inviting retreat that blends natural beauty with thoughtful design. To bring her vision to life, Allison tapped her best friend, interior designer, and Modern Matter collaborator, Charlotte Lucas, for the project.

When Allison Welch purchased her Blue Ridge Mountain home, she wanted it to be her family’s happy place. So, when it was time to renovate, she tapped her best friend and interior designer Charlotte Lucas for the job.
The house was built in the 1970s, and this was a complete renovation. The goal was to lean into the age of the home and its natural surroundings. To bring that expansive feeling of the landscape in, they replaced all of the windows and doors in the house. You’ll find natural colors and wood finishes throughout, too, balanced with vibrant and playful design choices.
The result? An abode that envelopes you in comfort, like a proper mountain retreat should. The layers are rich and meaningful, but nothing is too precious. “It’s warm and cozy, functional yet stylish and tells the story of the family and the mountain community they love so much,” Lucas says.
Every space was designed to be a gathering space, from cozy conversation areas to a big dining table in the kitchen. “We made sure it felt like a real home where people could relax, not showcase,” Lucas says.

In the closet, Charlotte Lucas chose our Cosmos Knob in Polished Brass to adorn the drawers
These luminous ball knobs bring instant sophistication, catching the light and adding a touch of drama from every angle. Timeless in form and finish, they effortlessly elevate any palette, from bold interiors to classic neutrals.
In her master bathroom, Charlotte creates a bold yet refined statement by pairing hot pink vanities with our classic Washington Knob in burnished brass. The unexpected contrast brings warmth and personality to the space, while maintaining a sense of timeless elegance.
Charlotte thoughtfully mixes finishes throughout, opting for unlacquered brass faucets alongside burnished brass cabinet hardware—proving that there are no rigid rules when it comes to designing with hardware. Instead, it’s about balance, intention, and personal expression.
