Angie Persson of Swell Décorbelieves that good design incorporates a variety of materials and textures that create visual interest in a room. Her firm, based in Charlotte, NC, works to create beautiful spaces that are well lived in and that clients are proud to call their own.
A: Swell Decor's main focus is residential design with a transitional approach. We take our time interviewing our clients and considering what is important to them, and that typically drives our process. No project is ever treated the same. We like to customize each space for the individual/family and how they want to use the space.

A: I love a space that is lived in and is functional. We choose pieces that are comfortable and scaled to fit the space. I like to throw in one-of-a-kind pieces that have been sourced or provided by the client that is important to them.

A: I love powder rooms because you can be as creative and loud in your design as you want. It is one space you can depart from the rest of the house and make it interesting. Another space I really enjoy are home bars—it is a fun space that calls for a creative imagination.
A: I love using white quartz and moonstone in my projects because they both have a nice texture and can go anywhere. I also love the rose quartz for special places. We are currently working on a sweet room with pink characteristics, and rose quartz works perfectly on the dogwood knob in that space.

A: Growing up in the south has been a big influence on my style; however, being married to a Swede has changed me over the years. For the last 25 years, I have spent my summers in Sweden and have taken a lot of inspiration from traveling in Europe. I love Swedish antiques, and you will find many scattered throughout my colonial southern home.

A: We first think of function and then style and design. Depending on where it is placed, we choose the hardware to fit the style of the room or piece of furniture. Hardware is like the buttons on your coat; they add the perfect amount of polished detail when you need function and beauty.
