About Our Backplates
Backplates add another layer of detail to cabinet hardware. They frame knobs and pulls, protect cabinetry from wear, and help hardware feel more finished. Modern Matter’s collection of luxury backplates is designed to add depth without overpowering the space.
Each backplate is handcrafted from solid brass instead of lightweight zinc alloy. The pieces have real weight and develop character over time. Finishes like unlacquered brass, satin nickel, and oil-rubbed bronze create natural depth across the collection. Many styles feature clean lines, sculptural edges, and decorative shapes. These pieces work across both traditional and modern interiors. Several designs also result from designer collaborations with Young Huh, Mark D. Sikes, Michelle Nussbaumer, and others.
Backplates can help smaller knobs feel more substantial or give simple cabinetry a more layered look. Many designers pair them with coordinating knobs and pulls for a consistent hardware palette.
