Modern Matter Collaborators Interpret Schumacher Collection

Every thoughtfully designed space tells a story through color, texture, and carefully considered details. To celebrate the Schumacher x Modern Matter collection, we invited Modern Matter design collaborators, Barrie Benson, Pure Salt, and Sarah Bartholomew, to interpret the collection through their unique creative lenses. Pairing Schumacher's fabrics, trims, and wallcoverings with sculptural cabinet and drapery hardware, each designer created a mood board reflecting their personal approach to color, texture, and materiality. Together, these three perspectives celebrate the art of layering and the beauty of thoughtful details.
Known for her artful mix of traditional influences and unexpected details, Barrie Benson brings a playful sophistication to her mood board. Bold botanical patterns, colorful textiles, and delicate stripes mingle with warm wood, sculptural brass hardware, and antique-inspired accents. The layered palette of olive green, blush pink, and rich golden tones creates a collected, eclectic feel that is both expressive and inviting.

Natural materials and wood tones are balanced by refined metal accents, while a fresh, unexpected palette adds character and depth. The result feels eye-catching and sophisticated, yet still inviting, relaxed, and gives the appearance of having been collected over time."

Bringing a quieter, more tonal perspective to the art of layering, Pure Salt draws on California's relaxed elegance through a softly layered mix of natural textures and warm neutrals. Woven materials, linen-like textiles, pale wood, and subtle gray tones create a calm, organic foundation, while sculptural brass accents and wood hardware bring warmth, depth, and quiet refinement. The result feels effortless, tactile, and thoughtfully composed.

Woven textures, classical garden imagery, and sculptural hardware create a charming, layered palette that feels both elegant and inviting, capturing the beauty of traditional design with a playful, feminine touch.
