Peti Lau Interiors

Los Angeles based designer and friend of Kravet Inc. Peti Lau is known for her “Modern Bohemian Eclectic” interiors. Because of the effortless way Lau expresses her worldly inspirations through her designs, we thought she would be the perfect fit to create a unique bedroom vignette in the Kravet Inc. New York D&D Showroom. Lau incorporated a seamless mix of Kravet Couture’s newest collection, Sojourn, as well as Kravet Furniture’s exciting new Icreate Program to curate her “Relaxed Royal” bedroom. We had the chance to take a deeper look into the creative process by asking Lau some questions. Take a look!

Kravet: What was the inspiration behind this room?

Peti Lau: I was asked to design a bedroom using Kravet Couture’s newest collection Sojourn for the New York D&D Kravet Inc. Showroom. Sojourn was named after phenomenal destinations around the world, more specifically, a temporary stay. In my own life, I have had the pleasure of traveling all around the world. Before coming to the initial meeting with Kravet Inc., I binged the Netflix show, “The Crown” where I was inspired by Princess Margaret’s sojourn on the island of Mustique. Princess Margaret was the biggest royal in the world at that time and there she was able to escape her royal duties and truly relax. This is how the idea “Relaxed Royals” came to be! I was also inspired by the color palettes of Sojourn which were very soft yet vibrant with colors of the sea. From the beautiful color palette to the exciting pattern mix and unique woven techniques, it’s like the collection was made for me!

“I truly have my heart and soul in this house.”

KK: What was the creative process like working with the Kravet Inc. team?
PL: Working with the Kravet Inc. team was incredible. I had this moment when I arrived at the Kravet Design Studio where it felt like I was in a film- the main character arrived at the office she is inspired by and needs to impress! I had that moment to myself in the elevator where I thought to myself, “This is going to be exciting.” Once I arrived in the office and met the whole team, I immediately felt a sense of ease and began absorbing every detail like a sponge.

KK: Tell us about the ICreate Program furniture pieces you chose to include in this room.

PL: I love a traditional but clean line casegood, so I selected the dresser with the cane to give that natural and tropical island vibe. To make it more glamorous, I went with specialty hardware from Modern Matter which added the pop I was looking for. For my room, I chose to use the Conrad 1-Drawer Silhouette, the Lowell 3-Drawer Silhouette and the Complete Mame Queen Bed.

The hardware from Modern Matter was the finishing touch; it’s like putting that piece of jewelry to finish the outfit, but for this case, to finish the room!

KK: Was it easy to create your chests with the ICreate program?

PL: Super easy! The first step was selecting the silhouette for my bedside table. I love having one drawer and having the bottom being open, so I chose the Conrad 1-Drawer Silhouette and to add contrast, I did a turned sleigh leg to balance out the angular lines. Next came the finish of the woods and the face selection. I selected the mirror finish because it was new and I wanted to see how it would come out. It turned out so great on the bedside table. I felt the mirror finish gave the feeling of shimmering water. For the dresser, I wanted a cane face as that is one of my favorite finishes to use, so I chose the Lowell 3-Drawer Silhouette. It gave my room the island colonial aesthetic that I was inspired by. The hardware from Modern Matter was the finishing touch; it’s like putting that piece of jewelry to finish the outfit, but for this case, to finish the room!
