The Flynn team works diligently to ensure that a home reflects the owner's own unique style and personality. The New Orleans design team believes that great design begins with understanding the client's needs.
A: My passion for design started at a pretty young age. When I was fourteen years old, I began working in floral design, and I absolutely loved it. It lit a spark inside me, which led to my interest in interior design. I received my Bachelor's degree in Interior Design from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and have enjoyed every minute of it.
A: I would describe my design style as transitional. Being from a history-rich city like New Orleans, I can lean more traditional in certain areas. However, I love designing spaces specifically for my clients that they love and that feels very “them.” Some of my favorite projects have been when the client’s style was different from my personal style!
A: Here’s the thing, we all have things we need to hide away. Typically, the bigger the house, the more stuff to hide away. So the trick is to figure out how not to change our lives but change the way we look at it. How to create functional storage for all the things while still keeping it beautiful. So maybe it’s a built-in with gorgeous doors and hardware that is beautiful but also hides the mess.
A: Hardware plays a large role in my designs. When thinking of designing a space, I always think that it is the details that elevate the design. Understanding things like the size, color, or texture of the hardware can influence the rest of the space. There are many instances when the hardware is selected before the cabinet style so that it can be built around the hardware. It truly makes each piece unique and beautiful.
A: I am always looking for inspiration in everything and everywhere, but the main way I keep my cup filled is by going to markets. I usually attend 2-3 trade shows a year. It is one of my favorite things to do as a designer! I love seeing the new pieces and the trends that are starting to take place in the industry. Bringing these global trends back to my design office and eventually into the spaces I create keeps my spirit fulfilled!
A: My tip for creating a timeless feel is to keep the bones of your design classic and traditional. If you want a space to be timeless, you can’t select what is only trending. I am always adding in current, fun trending elements with details like draperies, fabrics, hardware, and accessories. However, these elements can always be changed to update and refresh a space while keeping the classic elements in place.
