Since starting huit design in 2014, Tania Cassill specialized in creating curated, collected spaces that inspire. Her latest project, a personal renovation of a 1955 beach bungalow, allowed her to merge her love for French design and practicality with a bespoke kitchen transformation. Despite the challenge of working with a small space, she maintained the home's original charm while ensuring an open and comfortable flow.
A: This project was personal. I found this 1955 beach bungalow and fell in love. I purchased the home in October and fully renovated it in 4 months. I had a very clear vision of what I wanted the house to look like. This was my opportunity to design a beautiful bespoke kitchen.

A: I prefer to design a home within its original genre. This home was built in 1955, so I took that into consideration when designing the interior. The biggest challenge I faced was that the home is very small and I needed the flow to feel comfortable and open.
A: I wanted the space to be inviting and to inspire everyone who spends time in it.
A: The Marcelle Collection felt very French to me and was the perfect fit.
A: The Calacatta Monet counters and backsplash are stunning, but the la Cornue range is the show stopper!
A: The hardware is the jewelry of the space. The cabinetry is always clean, and the cabinet hardware is a finishing touch.
A: I have been in interior design since 2004, and I started huit design in 2014 at a small brick-and-mortar studio. I tend to lean into a more curated and collected aesthetic, creating spaces that inspire those who inhabit them. My focus is residential, but I have also dabbled in a few commercial and retail spaces. You can find us on Instagram at @huitlaguna and www.huitlaguna.com.
